2004, Fine Arts Museum “Eduardo Sivori”
(Buenos Aires – Argentina), shows the sculpture
“Grand Totem”. This artwork (3 m. of height)
was made in bronze in 1975 and melted by Flli. Da
Patro in Pietrasanta, Italy.. |

Centre
Georges Pompidou purchased one copy of this sculpture in
1979. Another copy of this work will be shown in Maman Gallery,
in Buenos Aires Argentina, during November.

In
this section you will find part of Alicia Penalba's sculpture
work. Most of it was made in bronze and ranges from small items
to huge pieces of art over twenty feet high. She also made sculptures
in alpaca stainless steel, fiberglass, cement and terracota.
She designed tapestry and carpets produced by Manufacture des
Gobelins, foulards, jewels, collages, porcelain made by Sevres,
serigraphy and lithography. |

Here
is a list of the different events which took place during Alicia
Penalba's artistic career. 1948: Penalba arrives in Paris at
the end of November, with a scholarship from the French government
and begins her studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des
Beaux-Arts in the engraving department. 1949: Penalba is awarded
the engraving medal for foreign students and begins sculpting
at Condoy's atelier at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière.
From this moment on she devotes herself exclusively to sculpture...
Alicia Penalba was born to spanish parents in 1913 in San Pedro,
Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. From a very young age she
expressed an inclination towards drawing and painting. She studied
under Zadkine, at the Académie de la Grande Chaumiére. Encouraged
by the work of Hans Arp, Brancusi and Giacometti, Alicia Penalba
created, a tremendous body of work for over thirty years and
was recognized for her unique style by critics and a wide range
of public throughout the world. She lived and worked alternating
between Paris and Pietrasanta, Italy. |
